Skin is essentially divided into 3 broad categories- dry, sensitive and oily. Each type of skin comes with its own set of problems. One needs to follow a skin care regimes according to one’s skin type.

Dry skin tends to age faster. People with dry skin should avoid strong soaps, as they will deplete the skin of its natural oils and moisture. Natural soaps made out of Aloe Vera, cocoa butter, avocado or vegetable oils are best for dry skin. Olive oil mixed with lemon and mayonnaise works as a natural skin moisturizer.


Normal to oily skin should be treated with light oils such as jojoba, grape seed, or avocado Pumpkin is also extensively used in oily skin care.
Pumpkin seeds, pulp and juice is used in natural cosmetics. Pumpkin seeds have a lot of useful oils which nourish the skin.

One can also combine on a small raw pumpkin,with 1 egg white to form a mask. Apply the mask on your face, and after 15 minutes, rinse with cool water. Pumpkin juice can also be used as a skin cleanser. Milled oat flakes can be mixed with 5-6 mashed berries and grapes and applied on face. Massage it and rinse it with icy cold water and see results.
Orange scrub is suitable for normal skin. You need to take 1 tablespoon of crushed dried orange peel, mix it with 1 teaspoon of ground almonds and add warm water. Mix it and apply on face, massage for 3 to 4 minutes and wash off with warm water.

Major causes of sensitive skin are reactions to product or ingredients, sun exposure, food or detergents reactions. Natural products are less likely to trigger skin reactions. Use almond or jojoba oil to cleanse your face.
Comfrey dipped in water makes a good toner for sensitive skin. One can make a home facial scrub by mixing grapefruit seeds with oatmeal. Yogurt and cucumber make good face masks for sensitive skin. They have soothing properties.

One can tailor make natural skin care recipes according ones skin type. It is essential to know which ingredient works well on which types of skin. One needs to be careful about not using certain ingredients which can trigger skin irritations or rashes on certain skin types. Sensitive skin needs extra care and protection.
